On the Road for a week
We've been on the road for a week...on our "U Tour". If you haven't seen the random iphoto posts from the past week, we left San Francisco last Sunday, May 18. We are making a long (not direct) route to Denver. We made stops in San Luis Obispo and Pismo Beach...we got to see our friend, Ruth, in SLO.
We then stopped in Santa Barbara for the night at an old hotel built by Charlie Chaplin. We had a celebrity sighting at the hotel. Dennis Miller, the comedian, was waiting for his car at the Valet and had a good chuckle when he saw the Mini Cooper with our roof rack...He asked Tim, "Which one is the car?" When the valet brought his car around and parked it right in front of us, he joked, "And here I am with my honking Kraut-mobile" (his 7 series BMW...hence, the Kraut joke).
We then stopped in Redondo Beach to see my high school friend, Sherrie. We had lunch in Malibu and played on the beach and hit a kids aquarium with Ty. After Redondo, we drove to Palm Springs. I was a bit disappointed, as I was hoping for some cool 1950's architecture and shopping. But, I didn't find it. We took a little diversion into Joshua Tree National Park, but hated to stray for long with Ty in the car. We stayed a night in Scottsdale, AZ before heading to Tucson, AZ. I must say that I really loved Tucson and would happily vacation there again. The desert is amazing and fortunately it wasn't too hot for our few days.
Today, we had our longest drive...over seven hours to get from Tucson to Santa Fe. we are now in Santa Fe for two nights before heading to Denver...for good!
